InfiNet Wireless provides super-fast over-water transmission for Regal Springs fish farms

The solution reduced human intervention, improving employee productivity.

InfiNet Wireless, the global leader in fixed broadband wireless connectivity, has provided a cost-effective solution to enable the transmission of voice, data and video surveillance footage across all Regal Springs production centres.

Regal Springs is the number one producer of all-natural tilapia, which it grows in rural farms across Mexico, Honduras and Indonesia, in large floating pens to avoid health risks which wild fish can sometimes experience. Due to the vast geographic spread of its facilities, Regal Springs approached INXITE, InfiNet's partner in Mexico specialising in wireless communications and infrastructure solutions, to help provide a more flexible and reliable wireless backhaul network that enables the simultaneous transmission of voice, data and video streams between all its production centres.

INXITE designed the network for optimum performance across Regal Springs' challenging landscape and environment, using the InfiNet Wireless portfolio of solutions that could withstand the harshest climates and be fully reliable even across long distances. The InfiLINK XG was ultimately selected to maximise its best-in-class data rates, speeds and low latency, and was carefully grounded to withstand frequent atmospheric discharges associated with lighting strikes.

“Before the InfiNet Wireless implementation, we had to depend on low cost wireless technologies that did not provide the required performance for us to be able to maintain the high-quality standards our operation needed every day,” said Humberto Villalobos, IT Manager at Regal Springs Mexico. “We are very satisfied with the InfiNet high-speed connectivity deployed throughout the water reservoirs that support our different applications and interconnectivity with our processing plants on the other side of the mountains, all in real time.”

The solution that was ultimately deployed consisted of a combination of both Point to Point (PTP) and Point to Multipoint (PTMP) wireless products. The PTP links were based on the InfiLINK XG product range and are today used to create communication between the main production centres – the administration office on the main land and the fish farms. The PTMP links connected each area and department inside the production centres, enabling Regal Springs to quickly and easily scale the network for its future needs. As all the farms are situated on open water, InfiNet Wireless proved to be the best available low-power consumption solution in the marketplace since it can easily operate via the only available source of electrical power, solar energy.

“Regal Springs needed a solution that was both flexible in terms of geographical coverage and one that improved company productivity, as well as deliver error-free data packets across all production centres,” said Carlos de la Madrid, LATAM Director at InfiNet Wireless. “The solution provided by InfiNet Wireless, along with significantly reduced operational costs when compared to the previous platform, allowed Regal Fish Farms to improve the productivity of its employees and assets, and their valuable time is no longer spent on manual tasks and interventions.”

Regal Springs can now focus entirely on its core business of farming fish in the knowledge that it has put in place a reliable and scalable wireless infrastructure that supports all its needs for voice, data and video transmissions across the wide geographic expanse of all its rural facilities.
