Breakthrough “last mile” Technology sees InfiNet Wireless in Homes across the Globe

InfiNet Wireless is the leading manufacturer of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) communications systems. Known around the world for its successful enterprise and carrier-class wireless and networking solutions, InfiNet Wireless has announced it is successfully translating its technology to the delivery of highly reliable, carrier ‘triple-play’ services (voice, data & video/TV) to private households across the world.

Traditionally, InfiNet Wireless’ solutions have been applied to the creation of large-scale networks for large corporate customers and communications service providers. However, with the increasing demand for reliable and high bandwidth ‘last mile’ connections for the home consumer market, broadband wireless presents an interesting alternative to providing fibre or copper connections to the home user.

Roman Smirnov, Business Development Director at InfiNet Wireless, said, “This project brings a new dimension to the delivery capabilities of our InfiNet Wireless solutions. InfiNet Wireless is renowned as a market leader in the production of enterprise- and carrier-class networking. This project has also highlighted the competitive and economic advantages of using InfiNet Wireless for the delivery of rural wireless broadband services to more remote communities.”

Smirnov continues, “Our rural network solutions offer operators the chance to provide a cost-effective delivery mechanism for reliable, high bandwidth services. This includes the ability to reliably deliver television and video services to households which traditionally cannot be reached because of the technical and economic challenges associated with offering "last mile" connectivity.”

Infinet Wireless have been working closely with Muvikom and Rostelecom in the region of Sergeevka, Primorski Krai, in the far Eastern region of Russia. Rostelecom have established a programme of field trials to assess the viability of offering rural telecommunications and triple-play services to a household subscriber base, using Broadband Wireless technology as the delivery vehicle to the home.

These trials showed that the wireless links maintained significantly high levels of quality and reliability throughout, and speeds of up to 30 Mbps for each subscriber under all weather conditions
Following the trials, feedback from the customers, participating in the trial area in Sergeevka, confirmed their satisfaction with the overall quality and reliability of the solution provided: so much so that they all indicated their readiness to continue using the service on the basis of a paid subscription service.

The successful trials have proved the viability of deploying InfiNet Wireless’ equipment to provide triple-play services and Rostelecom are currently scoping the feasibility of installing these rural network architectures into the Far East, Volga and Southern Federal districts.
