BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON DUBROVNIK
As one of the world’s most diverse cultural heritage cities, Dubrovnik is a stunning destination that boasts wealth, history and heritage. The ancient city, which Game of Thrones fans would recognise as Kings Landing, is full of natural surroundings and culinary delights as it sits between the Adriatic and Dinaric Alps.
Often referred to as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, the city is listed as one of rich culture and history on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The city has many attractions but the greatest and most sought, is the 1,970 metres wall surrounding The Old Town of Dubrovnik, walls which have served to protect the city from various threats over the centuries, but now stand as a major tourist attraction.
With its crystal-clear sea and Mediterranean climate, Dubrovnik has hailed many tourists throughout the years, seeing two million visitors for the first time in 2017 due to its growing popularity. The city and its surroundings continue to grow and preserve its charm through its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, palaces and fountains.
